Pre-Owned Deals of the Week ending 08-21-2022

Welcome to the Pre-Owned DOTW for the week ending Sunday, August 21, 2022. In this weekly blog, I’ll highlight 5 excellent deals for independent and microbrand watches on the pre-owned market. I spend waaaaay too much time in the various forums and on AD sites, so I’m constantly digging these up.

Condition Listed: Looks like a clean copy, but no description provided.

My Notes: The OSO was the very first watch I did a full review on, which you can read right here. I gave it an 8/10, which, is extremely high praise. If I wasn't already saving for a Classic Black variant, this would have been the one I would've picked up as a companion to my Champagne OSO. For $300, the thing is a bargain!

2. Oris Propilot X Calibre 400

Market Price: around $3900 USD if you want it from an AD — which Topper are — and lower if you don't mind gray market.

Condition Listed: 95% condition due to faint marks on the sides and back of the case. The bracelet is in 95% condition due to faint marks on a few of the links. Originally purchased in April 2022, this watch comes with its inner and outer box, instruction manual, warranty card, hangtag, and the one-year Topper Pre-Owned Select warranty.

My Notes: This is my grail watch. I'm saving for it. If I had made it to the $3000 mark, it'd be mine in a heartbeat, no question. I have no issues buying it used from Topper; I own at least four pieces that were sourced from their pre-owned selection and have never had cause to regret a single purchase. In this case, the watch was purchased in April 2022 and should have plenty of warranty left. At 95% — and Topper are generally pretty conservative with their ratings — a discount of around 25% off retail is so good, I hope no one buys it for another few months so I can hit my savings target.

Condition Listed: According to the listing, ""The whole watch has a scratch resistant coating, and seems to have done a good job in protecting the watch. The clasp has a few scratches."

My Notes: Nobody buy this watch. My conscience made me list it here cause it's a good deal, but dangit, I want this one. So, yeah, everyone just lay off. I'll buy it. Eventually.

Sigh. No I won't. Too many watches on the list. Plus, I just got me a Zelos that arrived in the mail on Friday which is now officially my favorite Zelos. So, fine, go ahead and get it.

Also, the $400 price is actually really good, considering this is sold out,.

4. Mühle Glashütte Terrasport IV GMT

Condition Listed: The canvas strap in the listing looks ragged, but according to the listing, the OEM strap is included and is in almost new condition. Box and papers included.

My Notes: I have been watching pieces from Mühle Glashütte come across my radar for some time now, b ut nothing has truly jumped out at me. This one, on the other hand, did catch my eye and now I have a new interest in Mühle's pieces. This watch itself was definitely worn; there are marks on the case indicating that this pieces was worn often and not babied. That would explain the lower price and, if I were seriously interested, I might haggle a bit. It's not bad at $1000 but it has some serious signs of wear.

5. Nodus Sector Pilot Phantom Blue

Condition Listed: The watch is in 92% condition due to slight marks on the back of the lugs and throughout the case. The bracelet is in 90% condition due to slight marks on the links and clasp. This watch comes with its inner and outer box, instruction manual, and the one-year Topper Pre-Owned Select warranty.

My Notes: This is the second Nodus to show up at Topper and it is, another one that I am eyeing with some speculation. The one I posted last week is already gone; I doubt this will last much longer either. The Sector Pilot series are really nice and that day/date-capable Seiko NH36 has color-matched wheels to boot. It's also regulated to four positions by Nodus in their Los Angeles-based office to +/- 10 seconds per day. Definitely worth a but.
